The workshop simplifies the concepts related to identifying the significance of different aspects of body language including: facial expressions, voice projection, gestures, and posture. The participants are also introduced to different communications styles: Empathy and Assertiveness and means to integrate style, body language and verbal language in a way allowing effective communication patterns in the nursing field.
Purpose: The aim of the workshop is to familiarize the participants with means of using effective gestures and postures and reading and reacting to body language. The training also explains how most communication is non-verbal and most of it is conveyed naturally and instinctively. There is an attempt to make participants aware of body signals and understand and control the kind of empathetic and assertive messages nurses are conveying and also ways of relating successfully with the patients and colleagues.
Methodology: The trainer encourages and brain-storms from participants’ expectations about workshop and encourages participants to draw on their own experience. Furthermore the workshop creates an opportunity for the participants to develop self-awareness of body language and its impact on the communication process in the nursing field. The workshop is conducted in a highly interactive format, incorporating participant-centered learning activities such as pair-work activities, group discussions, group work activities, 2 sample videos and dealing with case studies as well as a role-play. The participant’s handout is designed both as a learning tool to develop participant skills and knowledge during the workshop, and as a resource guide.
Content in brief: The workshop’s central idea revolves around the total impact of a message breaks down. It studies all factors that have impact on the communication process such as reading faces, voice, eyes, gesture, posture, and proximity. There is also an attempt to encode the 4 listening styles and address the importance of assertiveness and empathy. All these aspects are integrated together to enhance body language that could lead to professional listening, speaking and active communication.
