WELCOME MESSAGE

This website and all its resources, is here to provide internationally educated nurses (IENs) access to user-friendly information on English language proficiency (English and communication).  We recognize that there is little information about English language education and best practices with nursing bridging programs in Ontario and our research study and website will facilitate to bridge the gaps in information.

IENs are highly diverse group of learners who may need a variety of educational approaches to meet their needs effectively.  This website will highlight the diverse learning needs of IENs and offer suggestions for improving oral English language proficiency among IENs as well as providing links to other relevant research and websites.  The suggestions for improving English language proficiency among IENs are based on the results of an IEN learning oral language assessment tool for our study. This website is also designed to create new communicating spaces for IENs to share their experiences, ask questions and build social networks with one another.  With higher English language proficiency, IENs will experience greater academic success, improved success with obtaining professional licensure for regulated professionals and fair access to future employment.
